Amy Tinkler criticises British Gymnastics over complaint dismissal

The Rio 2016 bronze medallist said she is yet to receive a summary of the judgement despite repeated requests.

Amy Tinkler has hit out at British Gymnastics for failing to inform her of the reasons why her complaint against the governing body was dismissed last month.

The Rio 2016 bronze medallist said she is yet to receive a summary of the judgement despite repeated requests, and initially found out about the decision via a third party.

In an open letter to under-fire British Gymnastics chief executive Jane Allen which she posted on her social media accounts, Tinkler wrote: “It’s been 271 days since I submitted my complaint and 25 days since I was abruptly told by email that my complaint into Amanda Reddin and British Gymnastics was closed.

“I’ve emailed British Gymnastics three times since asking for an explanation or summary outcome. I’ve received nothing. Do you think this is acceptable?

“I found out via a letter to a third party on August 10 that British Gymnastics had closed my complaint. Why was I not informed before you started communicating to third parties? Will you apologise for this?”

Tinkler’s wide-ranging complaint related to her “experiences” working with national head coach Amanda Reddin, who has temporarily stepped aside while complaints against her are investigated.

Reddin has denied any wrongdoing, and the claims against her will constitute part of the independent review, commissioned by UK Sport and Sport England and led by Anne Whyte QC, to look into complaints of mistreatment within the sport.

In a brief statement, British Gymnastics issued an apology to Tinkler and said they would contact her with regard to explaining the verdict.

The statement read: “We apologise to Amy for any issues with our communications around her complaint.

“She deserves answers and we have offered to meet her either in person or virtually so we can talk her through the answers to her questions.”
