Deng Linlin adds to China's gold medal tally in beam final

Deng nabs gold in women's beam final

China's Deng Linlin has won the gold medal in the women's beam finals following a tight contest.

Linlin scored 15.600 in her faultless routine, which gave her an early lead with eight gymnasts left to go.

Romania's Catalina Ponor, who was a favourite for the gold medal, stumbled during her stint on the beam by taking 2 1/2 turn instead of a double, which lowered her difficulty score.

Despite a slight dip, the Romanian managed to sit in the bronze medal position with a score of 15.066. However, her place was short-lived as the USA's Alexandra Raisman, who won gold in the team event, launched an inquiry following her routine on the beam.

The American scored a 14.099, which put her in fourth place, but was upgraded to the bronze spot after the judges accepted her protest following a dispute over feet placement.

China's Sui Lu secured the silver medal following a routine, which nabbed her a score of 15.500.
