Force India's Sergio Perez: 'Lotus Renault was a serious option for me'

Sergio Perez reveals that joining Lotus Renault was a "serious option" for him, but he chose to sign a new deal at Force India.

Sergio Perez has revealed that joining Lotus Renault was a "serious option" for him before he chose to sign a new deal at Force India.

At the Japanese Grand Prix, Force India announced that the 25-year-old will be retained alongside Nico Hulkenberg for the 2016 season.

When asked about the Lotus Renault interest, Perez told reporters: "It was obviously a serious option, but I always made my mind clear, knowing the prospects of the team, and knowing what we are doing.

"That's why I always wanted to stay and I'm very happy to stay. You always listen to other options and offers."

Perez's contract contains an option of a further year.
