Udinese crash out of the Europa League

Udinese crash out

Udinese are out of the Europa League after losing a two-legged qualifier with Slovan Liberec.

The Italians drew 1-1 in the Czech Republic this evening after being reduced to ten men in the second half.

With work to do after a 3-1 defeat at home last week, Udinese started strongly, although both Antonio Di Natale and Luis Muriel missed the target from good positions.

The hosts then had a couple of chances of their own, before extending their lead midway through the half. Dzon Delarge found space from a long throw and fired in from close range.

Udinese changed their shape after that, needing at least three goals, and it paid off just before half time, when Muriel skipped past two challenges and found Andrea Lazzari, who made it 1-1 on the night with a curling finish.

The Italians pushed forward in the second half but were unable to really test the Liberec goal.

With 20 minutes to go, Roberto Pereyra was sent off for a second bookable offence, ending any chances of a Udinese fightback.
