No men's Great Britain football team for Olympics in Rio 2016

Football Association general secretary Alex Horne says that Great Britain are unlikely to have a men's football team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Football Association general secretary Alex Horne has revealed that there is unlikely to be a men's team representing Great Britain in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Stuart Pearce took charge of the men's squad for the London Games in the summer and managed to take them to the quarter-finals.

While the men are likely to miss out, Horne has claimed that the women's team, who were coached by Hope Powell, could fly the flag in four years' time.

"I don't think we will do it again for the men's team," Horne told BBC Radio Five Live. "For the women, we will keep talking to people about it. We are not ruling it out completely, we went through a lot of politics to get here."

Meanwhile, Horne is at St George's Park in Burton today for the official opening of England's new centre of excellence.
