Scottish League One: Stranraer crush Dunfermline, wins for Morton, Ayr, Airdrieonians

Stranraer stay clear at the top of Scottish League One after thrashing Dunfermline 5-1, although Morton remain in hot pursuit after a late winner at Peterhead.

Stranraer stayed clear at the top of Scottish League One after thrashing Dunfermline 5-1, although Morton remain in hot pursuit after a late winner at Peterhead.

Grant Gallagher struck for the hosts after 10 minutes, and though Gregor Buchanan equalised a quarter of an hour later, goals for Chris Aitken and Willie Gibson made it comfortable for the leaders at the break.

Stranraer's promotion push will be based on their goalscorers, and they have those in numbers with five different men getting the goals. Jamie Longworth and Jon McShane struck after the break.

Morton keep pace after coming from behind at Peterhead. Andy Rodgers put the hosts ahead on 56 minutes from the penalty spot, but Declan McManus was the hero, equalising five minutes later then grabbing the winner on 87 minutes. Ross Caldwell put the icing on the cake with the last kick of the game to make the final score 1-3.

Brechin City are third after winning 2-1 at home to Stenhousemuir. They had to come from behind after Colin McMenamin struck for the visitors inside the opening three minutes.

Andy Jackson levelled 15 minutes later, before Paul McLean won it on 59 minutes.

That result meant Ayr could put space between themselves and the relegation playoffs, beating Forfar 1-0 via Jordan Preston's winner 10 minutes before the interval.

Airdrie completed an excellent comeback at home to Stirling Albion, winning 4-1 having been a goal down.

Right-back Ross McGeachie put the visitors ahead on three minutes, but two each for James Lister and Bryan Prunty sunk the league's bottom club.

Results in full: Airdrieonians 4-1 Stirling Albion, Ayr United 1-0 Forfar Athletic, Brechin City 2-1 Stenhousemuir, Peterhead 1-3 Greenock Morton, Stranraer 5-1 Dunfermline Athletic
