Argentina midfielder and Tottenham Hotspur loanee Giovani Lo Celso will miss the World Cup as he must undergo surgery on a hamstring injury.

On-loan Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been ruled out of the World Cup with a hamstring injury.

Currently, Lo Celso is at Villarreal on a season-long loan but it has been confirmed today that his injury will keep him out of the tournament for Argentina.

It seems he will have to undergo surgery on his hamstring which is likely to rule him out of action for a prolonged period of time.

Lo Celso's last full 90-minute appearance this season was back in September for his country, but recently he has missed five of the last seven games through injury.

This season has seen him be a regular feature in the team in La Liga, starting eight out of nine games, and he has played 13 times overall in all competitions, scoring one goal.

Lo Celso has 41 caps for his country and has been a regular feature in the Argentina squad in recent years.

The 26-year-old started in the 2021 Copa America final victory over Brazil in midfield, as he won his first international trophy with his country.
