Ajax manager Frank de Boer says that he expects Jan Vertonghen to sign for Tottenham Hotspur this summer, despite problems over a fee.

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has revealed that he expects Jan Vertonghen's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur to go through.

The proposed move appeared to be in doubt this morning following a dispute between the two parties regarding the Belgium's entitlement to a 15% share of the transfer fee.

"We're very close," said De Boer. "But if the deal is not done, Jan must start his training next week with us. I was in the same situation [when I left Ajax for Barcelona in 1999]. But, eventually, I expect the deal will be done. I expect everything will be alright."

Meanwhile, Spurs midfielder Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract with the North London club.
