Bayern Munich reportedly still plan to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, despite tying Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting down to a new one-year deal.

Bayern Munich reportedly still intend to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane despite tying Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting down to a new contract.

The Bundesliga champions lost prolific talisman Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona in the summer transfer window, despite a hard-fought effort to keep the Pole on the books.

Sadio Mane reinforced the Allianz Arena attacking ranks with his arrival from Liverpool, but with the Senegal international struggling with injuries, Choupo-Moting has enjoyed an unexpected stint of success at the tip of Julian Nagelsmann's attack.

Having hit 15 goals in 24 games this season, the 33-year-old has been rewarded with a new contract until the summer of 2024, but Bayern must soon plan for the future without the former Stoke City and Paris Saint-Germain attacker.

A move for Tottenham's Kane has been mooted for several months now, as the England captain is yet to extend his contract with the Lilywhites beyond the summer of 2024.

According to 90min, Bayern are still set to push ahead with their approach for Kane in the summer, as they are keen for the 29-year-old to compete with Choupo-Moting for attacking starts.

The powers-that-be at the Allianz Arena have made no secret of their desire to bring Kane to the Bundesliga - comments which have not gone down well with those in North London.

Spurs may therefore be reluctant to enter business with Bayern, but the Lilywhites have supposedly ruled out a sale to a direct Premier League rival, leaving the German champions well-placed to launch their summer assault.

Tottenham rebuffed Manchester City and Manchester United's attempts to sign Kane in 2021, but since then, little progress has been made in trying to tie him down to a new deal.

With his current terms due to expire in 2024, Spurs could be forced into a sale this summer if they fail to strike an agreement with Kane, who is poised to turn 30 without having won a major trophy at club level.

Spurs' hopes of winning the FA Cup ended with a 1-0 loss to Sheffield United in the fifth round earlier this week, while they have a 1-0 deficit to turn around in their Champions League last-16 tie against AC Milan.

Not since the 2007-08 EFL Cup have the North London club got their hands on a piece of silverware, but Kane remains in hot pursuit of Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record.

The Three Lions captain has scored an all-time record 268 goals and set up 63 more in 422 games for Tottenham in all tournaments, with 201 of those strikes coming in the Premier League.

Kane is only eight goals away from surpassing Wayne Rooney (208) in the Premier League scoring charts, but he still has a long way to go to surpass Alan Shearer's long-standing record of 260.

The Tottenham man endured a frustrating afternoon on Saturday, though, as the Lilywhites fell to a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers courtesy of Adama Traore's late goal.
