Harry Redknapp has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to move in a different direction after leaving the club on Wednesday.

Redknapp, who parted company with the club last night, revealed that it was not his decision to leave.

"I met with the chairman and the club decided to move in a different direction, and that's their decision. I have had four fantastic years at Tottenham," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"I was lucky, I loved every minute of my time there, the fans have been amazing for me there... it's disappointing but that's football.

"I have left behind some fantastic players. I think it was a team who could have gone on and won the Premier League in the next year or two and I think they can. I just wish I could have been part of that.

"Daniel [Levy] just said that the club wanted to have a change. That's their option, they own the club, they can do whatever they want. What we have achieved, it was fantastic, it was brilliant last year. We missed out on third by one point, that's how it goes."

When quizzed on whether the England speculation had affected the decision, Redknapp added: "None whatsoever. That was nothing to do with anything.

"I think people who support Tottenham had a lot to smile about over the past four years... I will never forget the fans. I feel great, I am ready, I love football. I'm not one for sitting at home."
