Tottenham injury, suspension list and return dates for Newcastle: Udogie, Romero, Davies latest

Bentancur banned again, Udogie hurt again: Tottenham injury list for Newcastle clash

Bidding to start 2025 in a better manner than they ended 2024, Tottenham Hotspur begin the New Year with a home Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime.

The Lilywhites have failed to triumph in any of their last three top-flight matches following Sunday's 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, where they were denied a morale-boosting success thanks to a late Jorgen Strand Larsen leveller.

At the mid-point of the season, Ange Postecoglou's struggling charges find themselves outside of the top half of the Premier League table in 11th position, increasing the pressure on the Australian boss who has not been aided by a fitness crisis.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Tottenham's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Newcastle, who comfortably overcame a pitiful Manchester United 2-0 on Monday.

Destiny Udogie

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: Unknown

Destiny Udogie suffered his second injury of the month against Wolves, leaving the field with a suspected hamstring problem five minutes into the second half, and he has no chance of featuring in this game even if he has avoided a severe issue.

Guglielmo Vicario

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: March 8 (vs. Bournemouth)

First-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is "pushing every boundary" in his recovery from an ankle fracture, according to Postecoglou, but it will be some months before the Italian makes his return.

Cristian Romero

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: January 19 (vs. Everton)

Cristian Romero is no closer to a comeback from the thigh injury he sustained in the 4-3 loss to Chelsea before Christmas, but a return before the end of January is anticipated.

Richarlison

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: January 19 (vs. Everton)

As is the case with Romero, Richarlison's hamstring problem will not let up in time for the Newcastle visit, but there is optimism that he will be able to take to the field again in a couple of weeks.

Micky van de Ven

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Micky van de Ven's hamstring failed him once again in the defeat to Chelsea back in December, and there is still no update from Postecoglou as to when the Dutchman might be back in the fold.

Wilson Odobert

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Wilson Odobert is stepping up his rehabilitation from November's hamstring operation at Hotspur Way, but no timeframe has been placed on the winger's recovery.

Mikey Moore

Status: Out Type of injury: Illness Possible return date: Unknown

Teenage protege Mikey Moore has been laid low by an illness for some time, and having not been involved in the meeting with Wolves at the weekend, it is safe to say that he will not make his comeback on Saturday either.

Ben Davies

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: January 19 (vs. Everton)

There was optimism that Ben Davies could have returned from his hamstring problem against Wolves, but Postecoglou then revealed that the Welshman had suffered a setback, which will keep him sidelined for another couple of weeks.

TOTTENHAM'S SUSPENSION LIST

Rodrigo Bentancur

Return date: January 8 (vs. Liverpool)

Only just back from a seven-game domestic ban, Rodrigo Bentancur is on the naughty step once again for an accumulation of yellow cards, although he is only out for one match this time.

In brighter news, Djed Spence is back after serving his punishment in the Wolves draw.
