Aston Villa caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald makes five changes for his side's clash against Southampton in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Aston Villa caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald has made five changes for his side's clash against Southampton in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

The Scot begins his reign in temporary charge of the club following the sacking of Tim Sherwood on Sunday by making several switches to the lineup this evening.

Micah Richards is replaced by Ciaran Clark, while Joleon Lescott also drops out of the side and Jose Angel Crespo comes into the back four along with Jordan Amavi.

Kieran Richardson moves into the midfield with Carlos Sanchez and Ashley Westwood, while Gabriel Agbonlahor and Rudy Gestede continue to lead the line for the Villans from the side that lost 2-1 to Swansea City at the weekend.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has made seven changes to his side that drew with Liverpool on Sunday.

Maya Yoshida, Matt Targett, Steven Caulker, James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Juanmi and Gaston Ramirez all come into the lineup, with Ramirez making his first start for the Saints since April 2014 at St Mary's Stadium.
