How Schalke 04 could line up against Borussia Dortmund

How Schalke could line up against Borussia Dortmund

Schalke 04 will be looking to win in the Bundesliga for the first time since the middle of January when they take on Borussia Dortmund in the Revierderby on Saturday afternoon.

The action in Germany's top-flight has been on hold for over two months due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the play resumes this weekend, and Schalke face a difficult assignment at Signal Iduna Park.

David Wagner's side are currently sixth in the Bundesliga, but they are without a victory in their last seven league matches, dating back to a 2-0 success over Borussia Monchengladbach on January 17.

Schalke have lost two of their last three in the league, although they shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim before the action was postponed in March.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the visitors could line up this weekend.

Out: Ozan Kabak (groin), Omar Mascarell (groin) Doubtful: Benjamin Stambouli (foot)

Schalke will be without Omar Mascarell and Ozan Kabak for the contest, while Benjamin Stambouli is also expected to miss out for the visitors due to a foot complaint.

Wagner otherwise has few concerns when it comes to injuries, though, meaning that there are not expected to be too many surprises in his starting XI on Saturday afternoon.

The break appears to have given key midfielder Suat Serdar time to recover from injury, and the 23-year-old, who has scored seven Bundesliga goals this season, should start in the middle of the park.

On-loan defenders Jonjoe Kenny and Jean-Clair Todibo should also feature for Schalke, but there could be a change in the final third with Amune Harit pushing to be involved from the start.

Guido Burgstaller has only scored twice in 21 appearances during the 2019-20 campaign, but the experienced striker should again lead the line with support from Benito Raman.

United States international Weston McKennie is also expected to feature for Wagner's side.
