Schalke 04 have announced that winger Julian Draxler will undergo surgery on his torn hamstring.
The 21-year-old picked up the injury in the first minute of the club's 1-0 win against Augsburg last Friday.
A statement on the club's official website read: "The first half of the season is over for Julian Draxler. The 21-year-old had to be withdrawn after only a few seconds in Friday's game against FC Augsburg (October 31) after picking up an injury in his right hamstring.
"The fears of the Royal Blues were confirmed on Monday (November 3) after undergoing an examination with national team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. The midfielder has a partial tear of his semimembranosus muscle in his right hamstring. He made his way to Stuttgart this afternoon and will be operated on as soon as an appointment with the relevant doctor is sorted."
Draxler has scored twice in the Bundesliga for Schalke this season.
