Roma 'face battle to keep Smalling, Mhkitaryan'

Roma may reportedly find it difficult to keep Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Stadio Olimpico on a long-term basis.

Having been allowed to spend the season in Italy by Manchester United and Arsenal respectively, the pair have made a significant impact at the Serie A outfit.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Roma may struggle to retain the services of the centre-back and playmaker.

Despite being settled in the city, the report indicates that Smalling is only likely to stay if Champions League qualification can be secured for the next campaign.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that Arsenal will demand £8.5m to allow Mkhitaryan to complete a permanent transfer later in 2020.

Nevertheless, Roma are said to have been informed by the Armenian that he is willing to take a pay cut.
