An Aurelien Collin header has secured a 1-0 victory for Kansas City against Real Salt Lake.
The match started quietly with neither side producing their best football and the attacking players on the pitch found it difficult to make an impact.
However, it was Salt Lake's Fabian Espindola who had the best chance of the half but he failed to hit the target following a fast counter attack.
At the beginning of the second period C.J. Sapong had the game's best chance but he failed to hit the target from close range following a testing free kick from Roger Espinoza.
The deadlock was broken by Kansas in the 63rd minute when Aurelien Collin made the most of some questionable defending to head in powerfully from Graham Zusi's corner.
Salt Lake failed to respond to the setback and it was Kansas who nearly extended their lead in the final stages but Kei Kamara's shot went wide.
