James Rodriguez bags brace as Real Madrid ease past Cornella

Rodriguez bags brace as Real progress

A brace from James Rodriguez has helped Real Madrid to a 5-0 victory over Cornella in their Copa del Rey last-32 second leg fixture, handing Carlo Ancelotti's side a commanding 9-1 aggregate win over the Segunda Division B team.

In an unexpected start, the Copa del Rey holders were surprised by the trickery of Xavi Boniquet, whose quick feet won a penalty off the clumsy Alvaro Arbeloa, only for the Cornella midfielder to lash his spot kick over the crossbar.

Madrid soon made the visitors pay as Rodriguez chipped the goalkeeper after latching on to a through-ball from Isco, before the Colombian starlet then turned provider to allow his 22-year-old teammate to finish with another chip.

The Santiago Bernabeu was sent into raptures again only minutes later when James capped off his brace, having made use of some poor defending to curl a standout finish into the bottom corner.

The home side's dominance in the fixture continued after the break and they found themselves 4-0 up when Javier Hernandez's strike hit the crossbar before rebounding into Xavi Pelegri, who could do nothing to prevent the own goal.

Real wrapped up a comfortable night in the 77nd minute when substitute Jese Rodriguez caught hold of Isco's pass to lash adroitly into the bottom corner and leave the final score at 5-0.
