PSG transfer news: Champions League winners 'beat Premier League trio' to Lucas Chevalier transfer

PSG 'beat Premier League trio' to Lucas Chevalier transfer

Paris Saint-Germain appear close to securing the signing of Lucas Chevalier this summer, having reportedly moved ahead of three Premier League sides in the race for the Lille goalkeeper.

With Gianluigi Donnarumma expected to leave the Parc des Princes, PSG have made significant progress in identifying his successor. As previously reported, Chevalier has emerged as the primary target, and negotiations are already at an advanced stage. According to L'Equipe, the French goalkeeper is expected to sign a contract running until 2030.

Lille are holding out for at least €40m (£33.8m) for the academy graduate, and although PSG’s initial offer was slightly below that figure, a deal is still expected to be finalised. The Ligue 1 champions, recently crowned European champions, are unlikely to be deterred by the asking price.

Aston Villa, Newcastle and Manchester United showed interest

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the transfer could be completed within hours, with a final fee of around €40m (£33.8m). Despite strong competition, all signs point towards an agreement being reached.

According to TBR Football, Chevalier had attracted significant interest from the Premier League, with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Manchester United all considering a move for the 23-year-old.

However, the Frenchman opted to remain in Ligue 1 and join PSG. Chevalier enjoyed a strong campaign with Lille in 2024-25, keeping 13 clean sheets in 48 appearances across all competitions. He now faces the challenge of succeeding Donnarumma, who is reportedly in talks with Manchester City about a potential move to the Premier League.
