Paris Saint-Germain remain three points behind Montpellier at the top of Ligue 1 despite beating Rennes 3-0 on Sunday.

It was the away side who so nearly shocked the visitors after two minutes when Victor Hugo Montano advanced on goal, but he missed from a tight angle.

The home side's first real chance of the match fell to Jeremy Menez after seven minutes, but his effort was blocked after smart work from Nene.

PSG continued to push for the opener, and Mathieu Bodmer could only head wide after a corner from Nene.

Youssouf Hadji proved the away side's biggest threat, and he twice came close to opening the scoring before the 30-minute mark in the match.

Chances remained few and far between in the latter stages of the opening half, but it was PSG who took the lead just two minutes into the restart when Nene found the bottom corner from distance.

The home side continued to dominate as the half advanced, and it was 2-0 after 58 minutes when Nene converted a free kick.

Nene completed his hat-trick after 65 minutes when he converted a penalty after Jean Armel Kana Kiyik had felled Menez in the area.

Menez twice came close to extending their lead in the latter stages, but it remained 3-0 as PSG claimed the victory.
