Martin Paterson has had his contract with Orlando City cancelled by mutual consent.
The former Burnley striker joined the MLS club back in January, but injuries have limited him to just four appearances this season.
"Pato was part of the core team that helped kick off Orlando City's MLS debut and we are grateful for his contributions," general manager Paul McDonough said in a statement.
"Due to personal reasons, we have agreed to terminate his contract which allows him to return home. We wish him the very best of luck in the future."
It is now expected that the 28-year-old will sign for a club in England.
