Banfield player shot dead

Argentinian club Banfield have confirmed that their defender Lautaro Bugatto was shot dead during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 20-year-old left-back, who was on loan at Tristan Suarez, reportedly found himself in the middle of a police shootout in his neighbourhood.

An officer opened fire in attempt to prevent an ongoing robbery. However, the bullet ricocheted and perforated Bugatto's lung, according to Perfil.

"We regret to inform that Lautaro Bugatto, a left-back who was on loan at Tristan Suarez, has passed away. Our deepest condolences," read a statement on Banfield's official website.

The police are yet to comment on the incident.
