Manchester City Women come back from a goal behind to beat Chelsea Women 3-1 in the final of the Women's League Cup.

Manchester City Women came back from a goal down to defeat Chelsea Women 3-1 and lift the Women's League Cup crown at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Emma Hayes's side took advantage of a poor first 45 minutes from their counterparts and went into half time 1-0 up thanks to Sam Kerr's effort, but City turned the screw in the second 45.

Caroline Weir took all of four minutes after the restart to restore parity for City before Ellen White's close-range finish, and Weir wrapped up the result in the 69th minute for an overjoyed Gareth Taylor.

"I'm really proud of the players. We knew we weren't great first half and we spoke about belief and faith at half-time and I don't think the players could have shown any more of that in the second half and we were deserved winners," Taylor told BBC Sport after the win.

"We were fully deserved winners of the competition. Everyone has been magnificent and they deserve this. I thought we were immense second half."

On the other hand, Chelsea boss Hayes admitted that she had "never seen" her side ship goals as easily as they did in the final, adding: "The best team won the game over 90 minutes. I have never seen us concede as poorly as we did.

"I thought we were missing a lot of experience and it showed. We are unbeaten against this team 10 times in a row but it was their day today. Congratulations to them."

City have now won the Women's League Cup on four occasions after previous successes in 2014, 2016 and 2019, while two-time defending champions Chelsea lost in the final for the very first time.
