Barcelona boss Xavi says that the club cannot afford to lose either Gavi and Ronald Araujo, who are both out of contract next summer.

Barcelona boss Xavi has said that the club cannot afford to lose either Gavi or Ronald Araujo.

Both players have been important members of the first-team squad during the 2021-22 campaign, with Gavi featuring on 35 occasions in all competitions, while Araujo has made 33 appearances.

The duo will be out of contract at Camp Nou next summer, though, and Barcelona are currently struggling to come to an agreement with the pair on personal terms.

There is believed to be a host of Premier League interest in both players, with Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all said to be monitoring the situation.

Xavi is "optimistic" that the club will be able to reach agreements with both players, and the head coach has insisted that the Catalan giants must do all they can to retain them.

"The club cannot allow itself to lose Gavi and Araujo, they are very important for us and I am showing that with the minutes I am giving them. I am optimistic and I hope that a solution can be found soon. I think that it's a question of time. Or so I hope," Xavi told reporters.

Araujo and Gavi are both in the Barcelona squad for Sunday's key La Liga clash with Sevilla.
