Werner 'turned down Man Utd for Chelsea'

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner reportedly rejected a contract offer from Manchester United before opting to sign for Chelsea.

Last week, a number of reports suggested that the Blues had won the race for the Germany international after Liverpool deemed the player too expensive ahead of the next transfer window.

However, according to Sky Deutschland, Frank Lampard's side faced competition from more than just the Premier League leaders.

The report claims that United offered a deal to the 24-year-old, only for the versatile attacker to accept more lucrative terms at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will also have to pay a fee in the region of £54m - Werner's release clause - if they are to get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.

Werner has enjoyed a tremendous campaign, contributing 29 goals and 10 assists in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
