Diego Simeone: Javier Hernandez "is a good option"

Diego Simeone hints that he is eager to add Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez to his Atletico Madrid squad.

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has refused to dismiss speculation that has linked his club with a move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The Spanish champions have lost the services of Diego Costa, David Villa and Adrian Lopez this summer and although Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann have been recruited, it is believed that Simeone is keen to bolster his attacking options even further.

Mexican frontman Hernandez is thought to be on Simeone's list of targets and when asked about his supposed interest, the Atletico boss conceded that the 26-year-old would be "a good option for any team".

"We have spoken to the sporting directors, discussed with them our ideas on the players we want. After that it's up to them to get the players," he told reporters.

"With Javier Hernandez and many other good players, anything is possible. You can't close the door on anything until the transfer window closes. [Hernandez] is a vertical footballer and good in one-on-ones. He is a good option for any team."

Recent reports have suggested that Hernandez has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by new United manager Louis van Gaal.
