Alexis Sanchez could be reintroduced into the Manchester United first team next season as a squad player, according to a report.

Alexis Sanchez could reportedly be reintroduced into the Manchester United first team next season providing that he is prepared to accept a 'squad role' at the club.

The 31-year-old has only scored five times in 45 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from Arsenal as part of a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January 2018.

Sanchez has spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan with Inter Milan, scoring once and providing three assists in 16 appearances for the Italian giants in all competitions.

The Chile international is due to return to United this summer, though, and he still has two years left to run on his contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

According to The Mirror, the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has accepted that the club will struggle to shift the South American on a permanent deal ahead of the 2020-21 campaign due to his substantial wages, thought to be in the region of £400,000 a week.

As a result, Sanchez is set to remain with United next season, and the report claims that the experienced attacker could play a part providing that he is prepared to accept a 'squad role'.

Solskjaer's team are due to resume their 2019-20 Premier League season with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on June 19 before hosting Sheffield United on June 24.
