Man United transfer news: Red Devils identify former Wolves midfielder as 'priority' for January window

Man Utd identify midfielder with over 150 PL appearances as 'priority' for January window

Manchester United have reportedly identified Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves as a 'priority' target for the January transfer window.

The Red Devils made five new signings in the summer transfer market, including the additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko to their attacking ranks.

They also recruited goalkeeper Senne Lammens and left-back Diego Leon from Royal Antwerp and Cerro Porteno respectively.

However, Man United failed in their efforts to bolster their engine room before the window slammed shut at the start of the month.

Man United eyeing move for ex-Wolves midfielder

They were heavily linked with Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, but a transfer ultimately failed to materialise before the deadline.

Man United could revive their interest in Baleba in the new year, although his significant price-tag could force the club to pursue other targets.

According to Fichajes, the Red Devils are eyeing a potential swoop for Neves after identifying the Al-Hilal midfielder as a 'priority' for the winter window.

The report suggests that Al-Hilal will be reluctant to part ways with Neves, although his contract situation could convince them to listen to offers.

Neves has entered the final year of his deal with the Saudi Arabian club, so there is a possibility that he could depart as a free agent next summer.

Should Man United sign Neves?

The 28-year-old has made 92 appearances for Al-Hilal since joining the club in 2023, contributing nine goals and 24 assists to their attacking efforts.

Neves boasts a wealth of Premier League experience after previously featuring in 177 top-flight matches during his time at Wolves.

The Portugal international could be a shrewd addition to Ruben Amorim's squad, especially as he has the talent to make significant contributions in possession with his impressive passing range and ability to score from distance.

Neves is also a strong tackler and good reader of the game, so he would add some valuable solidity to Man United's engine room.

As it stands, Amorim is working with Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo as his central midfielders until the January transfer window.
