Manchester United reportedly become the latest club to identify Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda as a potential transfer target.

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the development of Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda.

Before the start of 2022-23, the 18-year-old was a relative unknown on the continent having yet to play a game in La Liga.

However, the teenager emerged as one of the most sought-after prospects in January having established himself in the Valladolid senior setup since September.

Despite not being due to turn 19 years of age until September, the right-back has already made seven starts and three substitute appearances in Spain's top flight.

As a result, the likes of Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were heavily linked with Fresneda at the midway point of the campaign, as were Newcastle United.

That said, his agent was quoted by AS at the end of last month as saying that as many as 30 clubs were interested in signing the player.

With a contract until 2025, Fresneda and his club ultimately reached the decision that he should remain at Estadio Jose Zorrilla for the rest of the season.

Nevertheless, according to Football Insider, United are now looking to move to the front of the queue.

The report suggests that United will be actively assessing the progression of Fresneda over the coming months as his team bid to remain clear of the La Liga relegation zone.

That is despite Erik ten Hag already having fierce competition in that area of the pitch with Aaron Wan-Bissaka recently emerging as a rival to Diogo Dalot.

Before the World Cup, the latter was regarded as the clear first-choice in that position, but picking up an injury while representing Portugal at the World Cup gave Wan-Bissaka a chance to shine in his absence.

The 25-year-old has now clocked up 11 starts and three substitute outings this campaign, although speculation persists that United could eventually cash in on his signature.

The possibility remains that United may look to sign Fresneda and allow him to develop elsewhere before staking a claim for a role at Old Trafford.
