Manchester United are confident of signing Diogo Dalot to a new contract at Old Trafford, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly becoming increasingly confident of signing Diogo Dalot to a new deal.

The Portugal international's current agreement at Old Trafford is due to expire in June 2024, and there remains a host of speculation surrounding his future with the Red Devils.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are believed to be admirers of the 23-year-old, who has been Man United's first-choice right-back since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure as head coach in November 2021.

Dalot has struggled with a hamstring problem since the 2022 World Cup, which allowed Aaron Wan-Bissaka to enjoy a run in the side after being seriously out of favour under Erik ten Hag.

However, the Portuguese has now started Man United's last three Premier League matches, and he will hope to be in the XI for Thursday's Europa League knockout round playoff against Barcelona, having been an unused substitute in the first leg at Camp Nou last week.

Dalot has made 26 appearances for Man United this season, scoring once and providing three assists, while he has now represented the club on 91 occasions since arriving from Porto in July 2018.

The defender's deal at Old Trafford had been due to expire this summer, but the club recently activated an extension to take him until June 2024.

Man United are working to sign the right-back to a long-term agreement, though, and according to Football Insider, an announcement over a new contract could be imminent.

The report claims that 'a breakthrough is close', as negotiations between the two parties have progressed.

Dalot is believed to earn in the region of £25,000 a week at the club, which is significantly less than a number of his teammates in the first team at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Man United are believed to be close to finalising a new deal for Luke Shaw, who also only has a deal with the Red Devils until the summer of 2024.

Marcus Rashford is also in the final 18 months of his agreement, but the club's head coach Ten Hag recently confirmed that talks were currently taking place over a new long-term deal.

Man United also have a big decision to make when it comes to the future of number one goalkeeper David de Gea, who is out of contract at the end of this season.

A recent report claimed that the club are keen for the Spaniard to stay, but he will have to be prepared to take a significant drop on his current salary, which is believed to be £375,000 a week.

Man United are preparing to welcome Barcelona for the second leg of their Europa League knockout round playoff affair, with Xavi's side heading to Old Trafford on Thursday night.
