A report claims that Everton's final position in the Premier League table will determine whether Leighton Baines remains at the club next season.

Everton defender Leighton Baines will depart the club at the end of the season if the Toffees do not make the top four, according to reports.

The 28-year-old is now regarded as one of the best left-backs in European football and has drawn much praise for his performances in the Premier League this season.

The England international has a contract at Goodison Park until 2015, but it is understood that he is keen to play Champions League football next season, according to Goal.com.

Manchester United have long been linked with the defender as they prepare for life after Patrice Evra, but it is understood that Everton value Baines in the region of £20m.

Baines joined Everton from Wigan Athletic in 2007.
