Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wins Anton Geesink Award

Van Gaal scoops Dutch award

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was handed the Anton Geesink Award on Sunday evening in his homeland of the Netherlands.

The 63-year-old took home the trophy, which is named after the late judo legend Anton Geesink, after helping guide the Dutch national team to third in the World Cup last summer.

"For me, this award is very special since I have personally known Anton for many years," the Daily Mail quotes Van Gaal as saying. "Anton and I have the same character and we have both struggled, although with different resistances."

Van Gaal is likely to end his first season at Old Trafford without silverware as his team failed in the Capital One Cup and FA Cup, while in the Premier League, United are eight points behind leaders Chelsea.
