Sir Bobby Charlton backs Louis van Gaal to banish Manchester United "mistakes"

Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton backs manager Louis van Gaal to banish the "mistakes" of last season.

Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has backed new manager Louis van Gaal to get the Old Trafford outfit back on track.

Charlton believes that the Dutchman will help United forget about the "mistakes" of last season, when David Moyes led the team to a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

Seventy-six-year-old Charlton told MUTV: "We struggled a little bit last year and maybe a few people made a few mistakes but I don't think we will make them now.

"Hopefully we will be well-served by a really clever man."

United begin their campaign at home to Swansea on August 16.
