Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce called Cristiano Ronaldo "a genuine superstar" after the attacker scored twice on his second debut for Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Ronaldo netted in either half against the Magpies, as the 20-time English champions recorded a 4-1 victory over Newcastle, who had levelled the scores in the early stages of the second period through Javier Manquillo.

Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard were also on the scoresheet for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, but Bruce reserved special praise for Man United's returning 36-year-old.

"We had some really good opportunities but the difficult is that we gave poor goals away. It was our Achilles heel today," Bruce told Sky Sports News.

"That is the goalscoring instinct for a centre forward, Cristiano Ronaldo was on the end of it and it was a tap-in. If there is a genuine superstar in among us, it is him."

Ronaldo has now scored 120 goals for the Red Devils, having found the back of the net on 118 occasions during his first spell at the club between 2003 and 2009.
