Wayne Rooney: "I'll play anywhere"

Wayne Rooney says that he is happy in his new role as a central midfielder.

Wayne Rooney has said that he is happy in his new role as a midfielder for Manchester United, and that scoring goals is not the most important thing.

Rooney has started in a central midfield position recently and is likely to be deployed there again when United take on Benfica at Old Trafford tomorrow in their Group C Champions League clash.

"I love it. I don't care where I play. I'm just happy to be on the pitch, I'll play anywhere," Rooney said.

"Well, probably not right-back, no. But midfield is a role where you can get on the ball and influence the game a bit more."

Rooney has not scored a Premier League goal for two months, but he says that there are more important things to worry about.

"The important thing is the team and that we work hard together, win together and lose together," he said.

"I don't care if I don't score as long as we win."

"At this stage last year, Chelsea were running away with the league and we came back to win the title. We have to dig in."

United are currently second in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Manchester City.
