Report: Louis van Gaal's Manchester United appointment to be announced next week

Report: Van Gaal announcement next week

The impending appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager has reportedly been pushed back to next week.

Widespread reports have claimed that the Netherlands boss could be confirmed as David Moyes's successor today.

However, according to The Times, an announcement by United is not expected to be made until early next week due to a few minor details that need to be completed.

Van Gaal, who has won silverware with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, became the firm favourite to replace Moyes after the Scotsman was sacked in April less than 10 months after being chosen as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.

Numerous reports have claimed that interim boss Ryan Giggs, who took charge of United's final four games of the 2013-14 season, has been asked by Van Gaal to stand as his deputy next season following talks in Holland this week.

United failed to qualify for any European tournaments after finishing seventh in the Premier League table.
