Gary Neville criticises David de Gea for role in Everton draw

Gary Neville criticises David de Gea for his role in Manchester United dropping points at home to Everton on Saturday night.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has criticised David de Gea for his role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side dropping points at home to Everton on Saturday night.

The Toffees came from two goals behind to level the scores at 2-2 early in the second period before Scott McTominay appeared to have headed United to all three points in the Premier League encounter.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Carlo Ancelotti's side, though, with De Gea slow to react after a deep free kick had led to the ball dropping inside the penalty box.

The United goalkeeper also palmed the ball straight to Abdoulaye Doucoure for the away side's first of the night, and Neville was critical of the Spaniard in his post-game analysis.

"De Gea at the end doesn't even come out in line with the ball - you want your goalkeeper to eat the striker. Take him out. It wasn't a great night for the goalkeeper or the centre-backs," Neville told Sky Sports News.

The result has left the 20-time English champions in second position in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Manchester City, who now have two matches in hand.
