Mourinho: "We didn't get what we deserved"

Jose Mourinho has rued Manchester United's inability to see things through against Everton, but claimed that his side deserved all three points at Goodison Park.

The Red Devils took the lead through a first-half Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike on Sunday evening and looked on course to claim just a second win in eight league outings.

That all changed two minutes from time, however, as Marouane Fellaini brought down Idrissa Gueye just moments after coming off the bench to concede a penalty, which Leighton Baines was able to tuck away to earn the Toffees a 1-1 draw.

Mourinho, who refused to comment on whether Everton's penalty should have stood, admits that in different circumstances a point would have been a decent outcome, but not on a day when his side held control for so long.

"It is a bad result in relation to the performance - if you come to the Goodison Park in other circumstances it is a good point," he told reporters. "This is a hard place to play but we were the best team by far so it is bad a result and we did not get what we deserved.

"It is very difficult to control for 90 minutes, but we controlled for 80 mins. When a team plays passing football you can press, when they play long balls you cannot stop the ball in the air.

"The players are playing very well. [Phil] Jones for many years doesn't play five matches in a row; [Marcos] Rojo last season played at left-back, was on the bench or at home. So we have phenomenal performances and a very solid performance as a team."

United now turn their attention to Europa League action, with a meeting against Zorya Luhansk to come on Thursday in their final group-stage outing in the competition.
