Man United looking to equal Premier League scoring record against Leicester

Manchester United will attempt to equal a Premier League scoring record when they face Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Man United's ownership situation has been the topic of conversation in recent days, as prospective buyers submitted their bids before Friday's 10pm deadline.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe were among those that tabled takeover offers for the 20-time English champions.

On the pitch, meanwhile, Man United are preparing for a home game against a Leicester side, just four days after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The Red Devils may have one eye on the second leg of the Europa League playoff tie, which takes place at Old Trafford on Thursday.

First, they must focus on Sunday's league fixture as they attempt to extend their unbeaten run to eight competitive games against the Foxes on Sunday.

Having found the net in each of their last 27 Premier League meetings with Leicester, Erik ten Hag's side have the chance to equal a scoring record.

Man United's local rivals, Manchester City, are the only club to have a longer scoring run against the same opponent after registering at least one goal in each of their previous 28 games against Newcastle United.

Although the Red Devils claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester in the reverse fixture thanks to a Jadon Sancho strike, they have failed to win their last two home matches against the Foxes.

The most recent meeting between the two sides at Old Trafford ended in a 2-2 draw, while goals from Luke Thomas and Caglar Soyuncu guided Leicester to a 2-1 away victory in 2021.

Man United, who currently sit in third place in the Premier League table, will be looking towards the in-form Marcus Rashford to provide the main goal threat.

The England international has netted 22 goals in 35 competitive appearances this season, while he has also contributed eight assists.

Rashford has also scored in each of his last six Premier League home games - only two United players have found the net in more consecutive home appearances for the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney scored in eight straight Premier League matches in the 2009-10 season, while Cristiano Ronaldo registered at least one goal in 10 successive top-flight home games between March and November 2008.
