Clattenburg appointed Manchester derby referee

Mark Clattenburg has been appointed the referee for next Sunday's derby meeting between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford, the Premier League have announced.

United currently trail their rivals at the top of the table by two points following their failure to beat Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini's City inflicted a heavy 4-1 defeat on Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Clattenburg, 36, will be assisted by Simon Beck and Stephen Child, while Howard Webb will be the fourth official.
