Man United injury news: Red Devils defender limps off in first half against Tottenham in EFL Cup

Not again! Man United suffer injury blow in first half vs. Tottenham

Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof is seemingly facing another period on the sidelines after being forced off in the latter stages of the first half against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.

Matthijs de Ligt's absence through illness opened the door for Lindelof to earn a rare start in the middle of the defence, with Man United in action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

However, Lindelof was unable to complete the half, with the Sweden international forced off with an apparent muscular problem shortly before the half-time break in North London.

The 30-year-old was making just his ninth appearance of the campaign, and this is the third injury that he has suffered this term, missing the start of the season with a toe problem before picking up a groin issue while on international duty in November.

Man United will now assess the damage, but it is highly unlikely that Lindelof will be available for Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

Jonny Evans was Lindelof's replacement off the bench despite Harry Maguire also being in the squad.

Lindelof has made 268 appearances for Man United in all competitions, but he is out of contract at the end of the season and is widely expected to leave the club on a free transfer.
