Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag fears that Donny van de Beek suffered a serious injury against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is fearful that Donny van de Beek suffered a serious injury during Tuesday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old was handed just his second Premier League start of the campaign against the Cherries, but he had to be replaced late in the first period following a challenge from Marcos Senesi.

Van de Beek's knee bent backwards under the force of the challenge, and the Dutchman will now undergo a series of tests to determine the extent of the damage.

Following the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth, Ten Hag said that it was 'too early' to comment on the seriousness of the problem.

However, the Man United head coach has admitted that "it doesn't look great" for the midfielder.

"No, that is too quick. We have to wait and then you can make the right diagnosis, so the medical team have to do their work. But it doesn't look great," Ten Hag told MUTV.

"What has happened to Donny is bad, in the first place, for Donny but also bad news for Manchester United, if it is a bad injury."

Van de Beek has again found it difficult to make his mark for the Red Devils this season, failing to contribute a goal or an assist in 10 appearances in all competitions.

Goals from Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford handed Man United a three-goal win over Bournemouth, but Ten Hag called for his side to improve after the contest.

"It's true. It was 3-0 and I am happy with that. This is quite clear. But today was not our best game. We need to be smart as a team and make great goals but sometimes we are lucky," he told reporters.

"Great saves from David [de Gea] but play a little bit more smart and as a team and, finally, we ended up with two departments. One attacking one and one defending one.

"We have to go from game to game. The next game is a cup game but there is also the league. We want to win every game and it has to be a process.

"The process has to be to win the next game and not look any further. We need to concentrate on that, and we know that, so we have to bring energy and preparation to have the energy when we kick off on Friday night."

Man United will be bidding to make it seven straight wins in all competitions when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford in the FA Cup on Friday night.
