Man United suffer fresh Luke Shaw injury setback

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw was forced off in the first half of Sunday's 2-1 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Shaw was a doubt for the away trip after he was withdrawn at half time of Man United's recent 2-1 victory against Aston Villa.

The England international was ultimately passed fit to line up in a back four alongside Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Diogo Dalot.

However, Shaw was unable to complete the first half against Luton after being replaced in stoppage time by Victor Lindelof.

In Shaw's absence, Man United managed to protect their lead in the second period after Rasmus Hojlund had netted an early brace to give the visitors a two-goal lead inside seven minutes.

Luton forward Carlton Morris quickly found the net to halve the deficit to round off a frantic opening 15 minutes at Kenilworth Road.

Erik ten Hag would have been pleased to see his side claim a fourth straight league win, but his joy will be slightly tempered due to concerns over the extent of Shaw's injury.

According to journalist Simon Peach, the 28-year-old was seen limping as he left the stadium following the win over the Hatters.

Shaw has already spent considerable time on the sidelines this season after missing around three months in the first half of the campaign due to a thigh problem.

The full-back was also forced to sit out five competitive matches across December and January because of an injury issue.

As a result of his injury woes, Shaw has been restricted to just 15 competitive appearances for Man United this season.

The Red Devils are already having to cope without the services of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount and Antony Martial.

Man United will hope that Shaw's latest injury setback is not too serious, with the Manchester derby coming up after they face Fulham next weekend.
