Scott McTominay provides a reassuring injury update after he was forced off in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Premier League last weekend.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has provided a reassuring injury update after he was forced off in the Red Devils' 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Premier League last weekend.

The 27-year-old began as a substitute for the contest at Old Trafford before replacing Kobbie Mainoo in the 65th minute when the game was goalless.

Much-criticised winger Antony opened the scoring for United 11 minutes from time, but the hosts were forced to settle for just a point against relegation-threatened Burnley, who rescued a draw courtesy of an 87th-minute penalty converted by Zeki Amdouni.

McTominay has previously made an impressive impact when coming off the substitutes' bench this season, but the Scotsman was unable to help the Red Devils net a late winner on this occasion and was taken off in stoppage time due to a knee injury.

United's No.39 looked to be in severe discomfort when receiving treatment and hobbling off the pitch, supported by the club's physio, raising concerns over his fitness for the final few weeks of the season.

McTominay allays injury fears

After the match, Man United manager Erik ten Hag stated that it was too early to determine the severity of McTominay's injury.

The midfielder has since been assessed and has taken to social media to provide the Old Trafford faithful with a positive update on his condition.

"I slipped and fell awkward[ly] on my knee, similar to against Chelsea," McTominay wrote on his Instagram story.

"Nothing serious, just hyperextension, but I was angry and upset that I thought it was worse than it was.

"Hoping to be back on the pitch very soon to help the team as much as I can."

McTominay update a boost for both Man Utd and Scotland

The update from McTominay comes as a boost for Man United, who still have work to do if they wish to consolidate sixth place in the Premier League or keep their slim hopes of a top-five finish alive.

Ten Hag's side, who have won only two of their last nine Premier League matches, sit six points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have a game in hand, while they are only one point above seventh-placed Newcastle United.

McTominay's update is also a significant boost for Scotland, with manager Steve Clarke expected to select the midfielder as part of his squad for Euro 2024.

The 49-cap international was Scotland's top scorer in Euro 2024 qualifying with seven goals, while he has also chipped in with 10 goals in 39 appearances for Man United across all competitions this season.

It remains to be seen whether McTominay will be 100% fit to feature in Man United's next Premier League game away against Crystal Palace on May 6.
