Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag remains confident that his side will secure a top-four spot in this season's Premier League.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag remains confident that his side will secure a top-four spot in this season's Premier League table despite their recent wobble.

The Red Devils have lost their last two league games against Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United, while Liverpool's recent form has moved Jurgen Klopp's side firmly into contention for the top four.

Liverpool have won each of their last six league games to move onto 62 points, one point behind fourth-placed Man United, although the 20-time English champions still have a game in hand.

Man United remain in pole position to secure a Champions League spot for next season ahead of their final four league games against Wolverhampton Wanderers (H), Bournemouth (A), Chelsea (H) and Fulham (H), and Ten Hag is confident that his side will ultimately get the job done.

"Nothing changed, only we could have made it [securing a top-four place] easier when you have a win. We need three wins in four games, so everything is in our hands and we have to believe," Ten Hag told reporters following the 1-0 loss at West Ham on Sunday night.

"But it's not about Liverpool, it's about us, because look to the table and we have everything in our hands.

"If we bring our performance, if we bring our standards then we will win games, so we don't have to look to others – we have to look to ourselves and find a way to win and find a way to get back to our levels."

Ten Hag was also asked after the defeat at West Ham why he decided against bringing fit-again Alejandro Garnacho off the bench in the latter stages of the contest.

"He was on the bench and of course then you are capable to play, otherwise I wouldn't take him on the bench," said the Dutchman when asked about the teenage attacker.

"We have also other options, I think we had with [Anthony] Martial, with Jadon Sancho, with [Marcel] Sabitzer, [who are] offensive and fit, very fit players are there present, then you have to play them.

"In one week we will see also for him [that] it is that one week extra and he is brave. He can make a difference."

A mistake from Man United goalkeeper David de Gea saw West Ham triumph on Sunday, with Said Benrahma's effort from distance squirming past the Spaniard.

The Hammers also had two goals disallowed at the London Stadium, while they had a penalty shout turned down late in the first period when the ball struck Victor Lindelof's hand.

Man United will be bidding to return to winning ways in England's top flight when they welcome Wolves to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
