David Villa: 'Manchester City can retain Premier League title'

David Villa believes that Pep Guardiola's Manchester City can become the first club to win back-to-back Premier League titles since last decade.

David Villa has backed Pep Guardiola's Manchester City to become the first club since last decade to win back-to-back Premier League titles.

No side has retained their crown since Manchester United nine years ago, when Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils won three titles in a row between 2007 and 2009.

United were contenders last season, but they could not stop City romping to the championship with record tallies in terms of points (100) and goals scored (106).

"I believe that he can do it again because he is a good coach, he has a good team, and he has the support of Manchester City and the City group," Villa, who worked with Guardiola at Barcelona, told Goal.com.

"They are one of the best teams in the world and I don't have any doubt that he can take any trophy again this year and why not the best trophy that the club is fighting for from a long time ago, the Champions League."

Villa currently plays for New York City FC, who are under the umbrella of the City Football Group.
