Tony Pulis: 'Manuel Pellegrini under immense pressure'

Tony Pulis insists that he is not surprised by the criticism Manuel Pellegrini is receiving, due to the immense pressure there is on Manchester City to succeed.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has insisted that he is not surprised by the criticism Manuel Pellegrini is receiving, due to the immense pressure there is on Manchester City to succeed.

After being knocked out of the Champions League in midweek to Barcelona, City now sit six points behind Chelsea in the league with a trophiless season becoming a real possibility.

However, the Chilean revealed that he is "not concerned" about his future.

Pulis's side face Pellegrini's team this Saturday and the 57-year-old believes that expectations on his opponents is high.

"This is a world league now, not just a league in England. All over the world there are supporters following the Premier League," Pulis told Sky Sports News.

"There are a lot of fair-weather supporters as you know. Abroad there is a generation of supporters who have just started watching the Premier League. That new generation, 99.9% will pick a team that's been successful.

"So Man City need to be successful over the next four or five years to get a generation of supporters, like Liverpool did, like Man United did. They need the generations to support them for all sorts of reasons, it's money in the bank for them."

West Brom travel to the Etihad for their Saturday afternoon kickoff, with a victory for the Midlands side potentially pushing them up to 11th.
