Dietmar Hamann: 'Manchester City need to hire Jurgen Klopp'

Former Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann urges the Sky Blue to waste no time in replacing Manuel Pellegrini with Jurgen Klopp.

Former Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has backed his old club to replace manager Manuel Pellegrini with Jurgen Klopp this summer.

The Borussia Dortmund coach made headlines on Wednesday after revealing that he would be quitting his post at Signal Iduna Park at the end of the season.

Pellegrini is thought to be on borrowed time at Eastlands as City sit fourth in what has proven a disappointing defence of their Premier League title.

However, the Citizens are reportedly not interested in the 47-year-old Klopp, but Hamann believes that he is a perfect fit for them.

"What Klopp has done at Dortmund is second to none," he told The Mirror. "If there's a shortlist at City, he should be up there. I think he's got more right to take over Manchester City than Pellegrini ever had.

"His style of management and his style of play would suit England a lot better than it would Italy and Spain. He's very well respected, he's articulate and he speaks very good English. He doesn't hold back - he says what he thinks.

"There are no guarantees with anyone but he deserves a shot at a top club in any country. He's got the fire, because he is a bit younger than Pellegrini, to make him aware of what's at stake every weekend. Most big jobs in England are taken, so City might be the obvious move. I'd like to see him here."

Klopp has won three major trophies in a seven-year stint with the Bundesliga outfit.
