Pep Guardiola: 'Personality most important quality in new players'

Pep Guardiola insists that "personality is the most important" quality in a prospective new signing for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola has revealed that Manchester City are unlikely to sign more than one additional player this summer and admits that "personality is the most important" quality in a prospective new recruit.

The Citizens surged to the 2017-18 Premier League title, winning 32 of their 38 matches to finish 19 points clear of second-placed Manchester United and break multiple records along the way.

Guardiola has since added Algeria winger Riyad Mahrez to his ranks, but missed out on Jorginho after Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea stepped in to snap up the Italy midfielder.

"Personality is the most important thing," the Spaniard told Sky Sports News when asked about players' key qualities. "You have to know them.

"I love to work with nice people. I hate to work with people who are not respectful to their teammates, or the manager, or the club. Of course, skills are important too - to have quality on the pitch.

"If we sign a player, we will sign one more. At this moment, we will stay (as we are). Transfers are so expensive. We spent a lot last year because we had an old team. We will carry on with the same guys and maybe one more."

Man City face Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup at 5am BST on Sunday and take on Chelsea next Sunday in the Community Shield before commencing their Premier League campaign away at Arsenal on August 12.
