Tuesday's Manchester City transfer talk news roundup: Georginio Wijnaldum, Harry Kane, Memphis Depay

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester City on Tuesday, January 5.

The January transfer window is now open, with Manchester City continuing to be linked with a host of big names.

Pep Guardiola's side have endured an inconsistent first half of the season and could look to dip their toe into the transfer market again despite a relatively big-spending summer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings at the Etihad.

Barcelona outline three top January targets?

Barcelona have reportedly identified Georginio Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia as their three top targets for the January transfer window.

The cash-strapped Catalans - who sit fifth in the La Liga table - are expected to strengthen their squad this month after an underwhelming start to their 2020-21 campaign.

Wijnaldum, Depay and Garcia are all set to become free agents in the summer, but Sky Sports News claim that Barcelona are determined to land the trio this month.

However, the report adds that moves for all three players are unlikely to come to fruition until the summer, although the trio are now able to negotiate and sign pre-contractual agreements with other clubs after entering the final six months of their deals.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Garcia is likely to leave after rejecting Manchester City's offer of a new contract, while Depay is not expected to depart this month with Lyon leading the way in Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, a recent report claimed that Wijnaldum is keen to stay on at Liverpool, but the Netherlands international is holding out for a contract offer which he feels reflects his value to the club.

Fringe players at Barcelona such as Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and Riqui Puig could supposedly be moved on in order to raise the necessary funds for January transfer business.

Kevin De Bruyne to reject new Manchester City contract?

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly set to reject the Citizens' first offer of a new contract.

Talks between the two parties are believed to have been ongoing for a couple of months now, and De Bruyne has confirmed that he is representing himself in negotiations.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that talks between City and the player were progressing well and there was optimism that an agreement was "very close" to being reached.

However, The Times reports that De Bruyne is not satisfied with the club's initial offer and is set to turn it down in favour of a more lucrative deal.

The report claims that the 29-year-old wants his status as one of the Premier League's top players to be reflected in his pay packet, but he is still expected to commit his future to Man City as talks continue over the coming weeks.

De Bruyne's current deal is not due to expire until the end of the 2022-23 campaign, and the former Chelsea man has scored three goals and set up 12 more across all competitions this season.
