Half-Time Report: Sergio Aguero brace gives Manchester City lead

Aguero brace gives Man City lead

Sergio Aguero scored twice and had a penalty saved to give Manchester City a 2-1 lead over Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium this lunchtime.

Ryan Mason had a chance to score his first Premier League goal early on, but his flick forward was straight at Joe Hart, leaving the home keeper with an easy save.

The hosts broke the deadlock down the other end a couple of minutes later when Aguero smashed the ball in from the left-hand side of the box.

Tottenham needed less than two minutes to get back on level terms though, as Roberto Soldado set up Christian Eriksen to hit a powerful volley into the Man City goal from close range.

Frank Lampard tried to get the home side into a position to retake the lead, but was brought down by Eric Lamela, allowing Aguero to add his second of the game from the penalty spot.

The champions had another penalty just after the half-hour mark when Younes Kaboul tripped David Silva, but Hugo Lloris managed to deny Aguero a first-half hat-trick, palming his second spot kick away.

Mason had another effort saved by Hart shortly before the break as Spurs tried to get back on level terms again, but his drive from just outside the box could not beat the keeper.
